With a chart template, you format it once and then use it again and again. You can even set it as your default chart.<\/p>\n<p>They\u2019re great if you typically spend a few minutes on each chart formatting the colors, fonts, axis labels, etc., which many of us do to keep our reports in line with company branding.<\/p>\n<p>Or maybe you don\u2019t like the technicolor default chart formats, after all, they\u2019re not great. Just look at the one below.<\/p>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter img-shadow\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.spreadsheet123.com\/blog\/images\/screenshots\/chart-template-default.png\" alt=\"Excel 2010 Default Chart Format\" width=\"479\" height=\"287\" \/>\n<p>Any Excel user worth their salt will be making some formatting changes to create a more elegant chart that doesn\u2019t overwhelm their readers:<\/p>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter img-shadow\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.spreadsheet123.com\/blog\/images\/screenshots\/chart-template-formatted.png\" alt=\"Chart Template Formatted\" width=\"479\" height=\"287\" \/>\n<p>The softer grey formatting of the axis labels, legend, and title in the above chart result in the columns being the most prominent information \u2013 just as it should be.<\/p>\n<h2>Setting Up a Chart Template<\/h2>\n<p>To set up a chart so that it\u2019s available as a Chart Template is easy:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ol>\n<li>Format your chart the way you want.<\/li>\n<li>In Excel 2007\/2010: with the chart selected to go to the Chart Tools: Design tab of the ribbon and click \u2018Save As Template\u2019:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter img-shadow\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.spreadsheet123.com\/blog\/images\/screenshots\/saving-chart-template-menu.png\" alt=\"Saving Chart Template Menu in Excel 2010\" width=\"535\" height=\"138\" \/>\n<p>In Excel 2013 right-click the chart and select \u2018Save as Template\u2019:<\/p>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter img-shadow\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.spreadsheet123.com\/blog\/images\/screenshots\/saving-chart-template-excel-2013.png\" alt=\"Saving Chart Template in Excel 2013\" width=\"537\" height=\"313\" \/>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ol>\n<li>The \u2018Save Chart Template\u2019 dialog box will open. Give your chart file a name and click \u2018Save\u2019.
