1 Spreadsheet Basics

Excel is used to create spreadsheets that can perform calculations and make graphs.

The Excel Screen

• Each Excel file is a workbook that can hold many worksheets.
• The worksheet is a grid of columns (letters) and rows (numbers).
• You can get to the worksheets by clicking the worksheet tabs at the bottom of the sheet.

To name Worksheets

1. Right-click on the tab and select Rename from the drop down menu.
2. Type the new name and press the ENTER key.

OR

3. Double-click on the tab.
4. Type the new name and press theENTERkey.
   

The labels are the gray buttons across the top and left side of the worksheet.

The small boxes are called cells.

Each cell on the spreadsheet has a cell address that is the column letter and the row number.
